Best description ever! Took me right into the garden. Love fennel, it just keeps giving. I need to put some back into my garden. I will have to check out what seed heads I have out there that I could munch on.
Glad you enjoyed is Leslie! That's a good point, there must be something else out there that I can snack on without doing myself a mischief. I think the birds have had most things by now, though, to be honest, which is just as it should be! Oh, Oregon grape will be coming into season soon, though if I remember mahonia berries are quite sour and you probably wouldn't want to eat too many!
I love the bit about not seeing the seedling until it’s 6’ tall. How does that happen?!? I’m out there constantly looking at things and then one day I notice a giant plant for the first time. Very tricky.
I have lots of lovely bronze but, despite many tries, cannot get the other one going. It seems sometimes that generous plants can be hard to establish.
Bronze fennel is one of my garden must-haves, if only for winter structure. Great post beautifully written as always.
Thanks Emma, so pleased you're a fennel fan too!

Hmm, Oregon grape would be quite sour, but locals have said they make jam from it, with lots of sugar I would imagine.
Yeah, they're not really picking and munching fare, are they?

Oh have never grown fennel. I wonder how it would do in my cold Minnesota garden. May give it a try this year and see what happens.
