Left languishing and getting leggy. It’s time to move these on

Sometimes, I’ll leave a plant in its pot too long.

I need to make a clarification here. There’s a big difference between growing something in a pot, and leaving something to languish in the pot that it came in. You can grow most anything in a pot, though the bigger the plant, the bigger the container you’ll need. Container gardening is the perfect solution for areas of hardstanding, or for those in rented accommodation who need to take their gardens with them when the lease expires. True, it demands a little more effort – you have to remember to feed and water everything, since the modest amount of soil or compost in a pot provides nothing like the buffer against the gardener’s inattention that you get when you plant straight into the ground. But that’s not what I mean.
